Tech-Noir
Overview
Climate
Tech Noir in Future & Machine: machines that record more than they protect. Cold glass, colder policy. Standalone House films, not episode chapters.
A room that looks finished while the machines are still booting for no one alive enough to thank them. A port where the names have already been deleted and the coats have not. An hour after curfew that is not a metaphor. A market in low orbit. A screen that is last, and honest, because the others have already lied and been believed.
Some of this city rains. The rain belongs to Neon Noir. Here the subject is the apparatus.
Place in the archive
Belongs to Future & Machine. Standalone films only — series chapters live under Episodes.
The principle
The machine keeps the motive. Cold glass, colder policy. It recorded more than it protected, and it does not experience this as a scandal. Scandal is a human luxury. The log is simply complete.
The door that will not latch is policy, not a broken prop. A hand sent to close it can fail, or pass through, or stand there while the boot text climbs a screen that no longer has a reader. The climate files that. It does not add a speech to make the machine kinder.
Firmware
Firmware of the Dead opens on a room that looks finished. Fans, a cold door, a latch that will not take. The boot still runs. Kernel, drivers, a network that reports itself offline and continues the report. Nobody living is the customer. The dead, inconveniently, left the process running.
Port of Missing Names opens on a queue a system has already deleted. The names are gone. The place in the queue remains, which is the sort of ghost a logistics system can afford. Grief, here, is a missing field. The port does not announce a ship. It keeps the coats standing where a person used to be billable.
Curfew
Aftercurfew is a time, not a metaphor. The hour is a wall. After it, the street belongs to the rule that wrote the hour, and the rule does not get lonely. A booth that returns only a cursor is the same wall, indoors.
Wasteland Neon on this shelf is the case, not the alley religion. Glass, a file, cold light on a thing the city would prefer had stayed a rumour. First Contact is the handshake from the sky. This is Future & Machine without the handshake.
Low Orbit Market
Low Orbit Market sells what a ground city pretends it does not need. The stalls are bolted. The customers are shifts, not pilgrims. Nothing here is romantic about height. Height is just where the tax is harder to shout at.
Last Honest Screen is last because the others already lied. One panel, still telling the dull truth, which is why no one is gathered around it. Honesty, in this climate, is a maintenance issue. When the screen goes, the lie will have the room to itself, and the room will look finished.
How to enter
Firmware of the Dead if the dead still boot. Port of Missing Names if logistics is the grief. Aftercurfew if the hour is the wall.
Low Orbit Market if the market is above the weather. Last Honest Screen if the truth is the screen nobody watches. Wasteland Neon if the case is colder than the alley.
A story that continues lives under Episodes. These do not.
