Synopsis
Chrome Veins · Episodes · Archive
A small dark disc rests in the middle of it. A man stands over the disc with his hands at his sides. The gloves on the bench beside him are worn thin at the fingers from years of other people's hours.
The thin places show the bench through the leather. A stair at the back goes up into a darker landing and brings no steps down. He sets two fingers on the disc.
A faint heat comes off it and does not warm the table. The air above the table shows this same room, one second late: his own back, the pipes, the empty stalls. He watches his own shoulders from a moment ago.
Extended sequence
Then the image changes. The same hands, younger in the gloves, draw a filament of light from a seated figure whose face is his. The filament is thin and pale. The seated face does not speak.
He lifts his fingers. The image stutters and dies. The disc is dark again.
Figures in the frame
The air above the metal is only air. He does not put the gloves on. He turns one glove over, finds no name in it, and leaves it on the bench. The cuff stays folded the way years of wear folded it.
The price-rails stay dark. A rail that might have flickered does not. No buyer comes down the stair.
Codex fragment
The seated face does not return. Pipes tick as they cool and then stop. The worn gloves stay on the bench with no name inside either of them, and the man remains standing over a dark disc he has already lifted his fingers from. The clean table holds one object and a faint ring where the disc's heat was, already fading. Empty stalls keep their hooks bare.
The scenario is filed in the Codex.
Sound of Imagination
The stair does not deliver a buyer, a price, or a second pair of hands. The lower level keeps its dark rails and its one unworn surface, and the disc stays a disc that has shown him once and gone back to black. He turns the second glove and finds the same absence, no name, no slip of paper in the cuff. He sets it beside the first. The disc does not wake for the nearness of the leather.
Showcase
The landing stays empty. He puts his hands back at his sides and does not touch the disc a second time. The disc remains on the cold table.
His hands stay off it. In the stalled air above the metal, nothing plays, and the room keeps the shape of a market that no longer has anything on offer but the disc. The younger hands do not return.
The Craft
Pipes give one more tick and hold. The stair's dark landing stays a landing.
His own face, the one on his skull and not the younger one the disc showed, does not change. He leaves the lower level as a man who touched the offer and took his fingers off it, except that he does not leave. He stays at the table.
Read it as written. The scenario.
