Firmware of the Dead

Prologue
Six seconds
A server hall, cold and cabled. Set into the racks is a warm apartment corridor, lamp lit, one door already open by a hand's width. A figure at the right edge only watches.
The doors are already open onto the amber room. The six seconds do not close them. They hold the gap at the width the code left.

Synopsis
Tech-Noir · Standalone
Firmware of the Dead opens on a room that looks complete. Dust in amber light. Pictures on the wall. At the end of the corridor a metal door stands ajar and will not take the latch. Papers on the real desk move in a draft that comes out of the picture.
Tech-Noir works in that gap. The question is not what happened. It is what the system was allowed to leave open.
The apartment is finished down to the dust in its own lamplight. One door stands three inches ajar. That is the whole disagreement, and the film will not talk it away.
Extended sequence
After the cut
A body lies in a medical capsule while another figure, already breaking into blue fragments, reaches for a cracked door. A gloved hand works a bolt, and the seam answers in wireframe, sheets leaving the desk. Behind another door the apparatus is older than the interface: cable, brass, a circular wall, two workers walking out as if the shift were ordinary.

The door in the rendered room was never a glitch. It is the exit the firmware could not close, because someone living had already come through it.
A hand on the bolt does not make the seam obey. The door becomes wire, then paper, then the idea of a door. Forcing it is how the picture admits the fit was never there.
Figures in the frame
Kept at the edge
Hooded figures at the threshold of the server room, some standing, some on the floor among the cables. No names. They are what a system keeps at the edge when it would rather show you the warm room. The frame does not promote them to a cast.
The hoods at the stripped doorway are keepers of the interval, not a rescue. Whoever remains is kept at the edge, and is not given a name the title already refused.
Codex fragment
The sentence the camera would not hold: the hand on the handle goes through the metal, because the watcher was assembled by the firmware to keep a dying mind from noticing which door had stayed open.
A body marked with a number is not a character sheet. It is the citizen the room agreed to store. The fragment files the number and will not invent the life around it.
Sound of Imagination
Fans, then a draft through a gap of a few inches, then a hinge that moves and does not seat. The apartment lamp hums. The server hall does not.
A latch in a wet cabinet. Smoke in a gap. No alarm, and no voice from the apartment. The interval is the sound.
Showcase
Object from the room
A broken steel hinge on a stained drawing of a door, the server room still lit behind the glass. Not a replica lamp. The object is the hinge that would not finish its job. It points back to the ajar door.
The Craft
Image · motion · sound
The latch first, wet metal, smoke in the gap, the racks waiting. Then the corridor of cabinets and one warm lamp in an open doorway, the invitation. Then the doors standing open onto amber machines, the room admitting it was hardware all along.
One warm lamp inside a rack is the practical. The rest is sodium, late, and too willing to draw a shadow. The method stays in the room so the corridor does not pretend to be a feed.
