Prologue

A single dish on the ice, the sky brighter than the instrument.

Synopsis

Ice and aurora with no one in the frame.

First Contact / Signal · Standalone

White dishes stand on the ice. The aurora is already moving, before any hand has touched a switch. A figure in a suit stays at the edge of the frame and does not lift a hand to the headset.

The station was built to listen outward. The frame shows the other direction. The sky is busier than the instruments. The dishes are turned toward something that is already here, in the form of light.

In the headset there is no voice from orbit. There is their own footstep from an hour ago, brought back by the aurora. The sky answered with the listener. The dishes did not find a signal. The signal found their walk and returned it as time.

Extended sequence

The frozen plain under the aurora, the station small in the weather.

After the cut

The field goes back and the figure stays small. One dish stands alone, and the sky above it is brighter than the metal. Along the ridge the aurora sits low, as if it had come down to be counted with the instruments.

After the cut the dishes do not go dark to prove the shift has ended. One light remains in a bowl. It is the same light that was there before anyone arrived.

Figures in the frame

A road of ice leading toward the dishes.

The listener, from behind

Seen from behind, instruments strapped on, not a name. The frame keeps them at the edge so the dishes and the sky stay the subject. The portrait starts from the back. The object in Showcase is the weather, not the suit.

Codex fragment

A suited figure seen from behind, instruments on the back, the field beyond.

The sentence the camera would not hold: a sky can answer before it is asked, and the answer can be the questioner's own step.

Sound of Imagination

The ice road running on, the dishes waiting at the end of it.

Wind across a metal bowl. Ice taking weight. A footstep in the headset that is already an hour old. No score under the aurora, and no voice invited to translate it.

Sound of Imagination

Showcase

A figure at the edge of the dish field, not raising a hand.

Object from the room

The ice and the light, with no one left in the frame to claim them. If The Sky That Answered First leaves the screen it leaves as that weather, not as a face. It points back to the field.

The Craft

One figure standing in the dish field under the aurora.

Image · motion · sound

The road in, the figure who does not call, the plain with the station small inside the light. Still first. The held minute is the process, not the screening.
