One line
Before the synopsis
A bakery shutter, open at this corner yesterday, is down, the smell gone, the name on the awning already peeling at one corner.
Synopsis
Eden Crowe
A flake of that peeling lets go while the walker stands and sticks to the wet pavement. The walker stops, not in shock, and goes on. A voice that usually calls a price from a stall is absent.
The stall boards are stacked. The walker notes it and continues. Cold comes through the collar and is only cold.
In a window, photographs of local faces have been taped in a row. One rectangle of glass is cleaner than the rest, a photograph removed, the tape still clinging. The tape curls a fraction and still holds nothing.
Extended sequence
The street, in order
The walker does not know which face left. That is the size of it. Farther on, a handwritten list of names in a shop door has a gap where a line was scraped out. The paper is official only in the sense that someone kept it.
Cold air moves through the gap in the list and through the walker's collar alike. The scraped fibers of the paper stand up and do not lie back down into a name. The walker stands before the scraped name and does not replace it with a story.

The street
A bus breathes at the curb and leaves. No one boards from this corner. Shops that remain are simply open. The ones that are gone are simply shut.
Together they make a portrait the walker carries only by continuing to the next block. The flake of awning stays on the pavement. The cleaner rectangle stays empty.
Codex fragment
Stacked boards stay stacked. The street keeps its thinned inventory and does not explain it. The walker does not turn back to the bakery to wait for a smell that has already gone. The shutter stays a shutter.
The scenario is filed in the Codex.
Sound of Imagination
The awning keeps peeling at the corner that already gave up a flake. In the window the row of faces keeps its gap, tape clinging to cleaner glass, no new photograph slid underneath. The shop door keeps the scraped line, fibers raised, cold moving through the paper and through the collar in the same motion. Shops still open stay open without becoming a comfort.
Showcase
Object

The curled tape stays curled. The shutter stays down.
The clean patch on the window stays empty. Cold moves along the street, and the missing name is not restored. The walker reaches the next block without writing anything into the gap.
The Craft
The Craft · Tragedy
Image · Motion · Sound · Result
Shops shut stay shut without becoming a tale. The wet pavement keeps the flake.
The next block accepts the walker and does not restore the missing name at the previous door. The thinning continues.
Read it as written. The scenario.
The next room
After this filing
Nothing on the street volunteers a single event large enough to explain either. The next room is What Remains After.
