The name is not free
Fool's Gate. The Wall.
Not the emptied market. A timber face older than the stalls. Names cut shallow and deep. Gold only in the scratches that were paid for. A blank board waits like a debt.
Someone wants a name written as if speech were enough. The wall wants a price. The dead do not stop talking through the grain. The night is the ledger.
The name is not free. That is why the wall still stands after the market closed.

Timber, lamp, a name that costs
The lamp does not light the whole wall. It lights the gap where a name has not yet been bought. Wet stone underfoot. Dust in the gold. Two figures: one reaching, one already knowing the currency is not breath.
Fool's Gate taught that songs have owners. This chapter teaches that names do too. The wall is not a guestbook. It is a till that keeps its older plot after every customer has gone.
When the cut ends the timber still owes nobody a discount. The unfinished board remains the loudest object in the frame.
