Corrupted Childhood
Key art
Prologue
A wooden rocking horse stands between dark racks. The rockers are dusty at the ends and clean along the arc, as if the motion had kept only that path.

One line
Before the synopsis
Far down the aisle, a screen holds a birthday that does not advance: a cake, candles already blown out, the same curl of smoke returning each time it thins.
Synopsis
Machine Memory · Standalone
No face leans into that picture. No hand comes in to claim the cake. The recording reaches the end of that smoke and begins again.
It has done this more than once. The restart is a small blink, and then the candles are whole in their blown state again, smoke rebuilding from nothing.
Nothing on the screen grows older. The racks around it hum at a pitch that does not match the little scene. An adult sits at a side console, hands on the keys, face toward the racks and not toward the aisle behind.
Extended sequence
After the cut
A status lamp on the console burns steady and small. The horse is in front of the racks, between the sitter and the far screen, and the sitter does not turn the chair toward either.
The cake plays on, small, at the far end. Cables along the floor do not stir. Cold air moves from the racks and does not rock the horse.
Figures in the frame
What remains
The horse rocks once. The arc is full, forward and back, and the rockers speak once against the floor.
The adult's hands are still on the keys and then leave them, lifted, empty, not reaching. The horse finishes the rock and is still. The screen resets to the same candles, the same smoke, and does not move on to a later hour.
Codex fragment
The screen's restart blinks again, and the smoke begins its curl from the same place, obedient to a birthday that refuses the next minute. The adult's lifted hands settle on the console's edge, not on the keys, and stay there while the racks keep their hum. The adult does not stand.
The scenario is filed in the Codex.
Sound of Imagination
The keys stay idle, faint fingerprints dulling as the skin-heat leaves them. Time passes as the smoke on the screen completes another curl and another, identical, the cake untouched and the candles never relit. The horse, already still, creaks back a fraction the other way, a correction smaller than the first motion, and stops with the head turned a degree toward the racks.
Showcase
Object from the room
The status lamp blinks once in time with that reset and returns to steady. The aisle behind the chair stays empty.
No small shoe appears. No voice calls the horse by a pet name.
The Craft
Image · motion · sound
The varnish catches a little of the machine glow and gives it back dull. No one mounts the horse.
The cake remains at the moment the candles went out.
Read it as written. The scenario.

The recording repeats, and the repeat, with that small returned creak, is the only motion left in the hall. The next room is Ghost in the Index.
