One line

Before the synopsis

A broken slab leans on the door, and the same coil is grooved into the stone.

Synopsis

A little blue fire holds in the carved eyes and gives no smoke. Snow does not melt under it. The groove in the slab is older than the breaks around it and sharper.

On the ridge above, three elders in frost-stiff coats watch the shrine. One hand rises to point at the star-serpent, and the hand stops in the cold. Breath shows and is taken back into the coats.

Wind lifts powder off the slab. The groove is sharper than the old breaks around it. The blue in the eyes stays one size.

Extended sequence

After the cut

Frost on the shrine door, the coil written over the cut. A new fork in the path.

The pointing hand lowers. The elders do not come down. Their boots stay in the ridge snow, three sets of prints and no fourth. Frost skins the shrine door.

With no hand on the wood and no branch against it, the serpent scratches itself into that frost, line after line. The scratching is visible as a darkening of the white, not a sound the ridge is required to answer. The new lines fork lower than the stars.

Figures in the frame

At the edge

Three elders on the ridge. One hand rises to point, and stops.

The fork turns into a path in the snow that was not there when the elders took their place. The path is narrow and exact. One elder sets a boot on the new path. The snow takes the print and does not fill it.

The print deepens a fraction as the weight settles, and the other foot does not follow. The other two stay on the ridge. A second print does not appear.

Codex fragment

What the still would not say

The broken slab keeps its groove. The carved eyes keep their blue and their lack of smoke. The fork in the frost ends where the dark snow begins, and the night does not extend the path by even one more step. The pointing hand stays down. Frost-stiff coats stay on the ridge.

The scenario is filed in the Codex.

Sound of Imagination

Before the score

The shrine door keeps the scratched serpent, and the snow keeps a path that stops short of anywhere an elder could finish. Wind does not wipe the scratched frost back to blank. The blue in the carved eyes does not grow and does not smoke. Snow on the step stays snow. The broken slab keeps leaning with its older coil still sharp.

Showcase

Object from the room

A broken slab. The coil is cut in the stone. A little blue fire still in the eyes.

The star-serpent keeps its coil. The blue fire stays small. The scratched frost does not melt.

The path runs past the shrine and stops where the snow goes dark, still short of anywhere. The single boot print stays open in the path. The two elders on the ridge do not descend to join it.

The Craft

Image · motion · sound

Written Sky — the earlier key still

On the ridge the two elders who did not step down keep their frost-stiff coats and their unmoving boots. The one boot on the new path keeps its print open, deepened, unmatched by a second print.

The path itself runs past the shrine and ends in dark snow with the same exactness it had when the fork first appeared. The elders do not speak a direction into the cold. The shrine does not open.

Read it as written. The scenario.
