House of Glass.

The file

A cracked glass shard with an infinity sign, Guernica and the Demoiselles behind it

Twelve plates. Two covers. Rain on glass.

House of Glass was made by Aestas Infinity in 2026. It is a book in the archive, not a chapter of a series, and not a continuation of the Bosch book or the Goya book. Twelve works from 1903 to 1937, and a cover at each end. The line under a title names the work and says what the glass adds. The words sit under the picture. The page is narrow enough for a phone.

The twelve

Look at the picture first. A plate may move a painting. It may not put a new object in the frame and let the reader think Picasso put it there.

01 · The glass room

Five clothed figures in a glass room at night, after Les Demoiselles d'Avignon

The glass room. After Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, MoMA, 333.1939, June–July 1907. The five figures are his. The glass room, the rain and the shard are added. In the painting they are naked. Here they are clothed.

02 · Ash and gold

A glass wall over the figures of Guernica, ash and a gold lamp

Ash and gold. After Guernica, Reina Sofía, DE00050, May–June 1937. The bull, the horse, the lamp and the figures are his. The glass wall, the rain and the crimson wash are added. German and Italian aircraft bombed the town on 26 April 1937. The canvas left MoMA for Spain in 1981 and has hung in the Reina Sofía since 1992.

03 · Glass tears

08 · Night glass

A sleeping woman in a red chair inside a glass house, after The Dream

Night glass. After The Dream, 24 January 1932, private. Marie-Thérèse Walter. There is no museum page, so the link opens the work. The double profile is not in this plate. The glass house, the garden and the rain are added.

09 · Rose glass

A boy with a pipe and a wreath, roses in a glass house

Rose glass. After Boy with a Pipe, 1905, private, painted at the Bateau-Lavoir. The link opens the work. The boy, the pipe and the garland are his. The glass, the roses and the rain are added.

Leaf glass. After Nude, Green Leaves and Bust, 8 March 1932, private. The link opens the work. The sleeper, the bust and the leaves are his. The house, the cube and the infinity sign are added. On this plate the sign is hard to miss.

11 · The mirror

A harlequin looking into an oval mirror, a glass house behind him

The mirror. After Harlequin with a Mirror, Thyssen-Bornemisza, 1923, inventory 709. It began as a self-portrait. The harlequin and the mirror are his. The conservatory, the rain and the dust are added.

12 · Cave glass

A minotaur over a dead white mare at a cave, a glass house far off

Cave glass. After Minotaur with Dead Mare before a Cave, 18 May 1936. The minotaur, the mare and the cave are his. The sheet puts a veiled girl at the cave. This plate leaves her out and sets the glass house far off. The violence is his.

The covers

The same cracked shard from behind, Girl before a Mirror and The Dream seen through it

The shard, declared, and the shard from behind.

The front cover puts Guernica and the Demoiselles behind a cracked shard, the infinity sign engraved in the glass. The back cover is the same shard from behind, with Girl before a Mirror and The Dream. In most of the twelve plates the mark is small. On the covers it is shown. The shard is this book's own. It is not Picasso's, and it is not in any museum.

The name

Pablo Ruiz Picasso was born in Málaga on 25 October 1881 and died in Mougins on 8 April 1973. He did not invent Cubism alone. With Braque, from about 1908, he stayed in the room while the room broke. This book is one atmosphere laid over twelve of those years: rain on glass at night, one light, gold dust, a low crimson. The glass is added. The figures are his.

The copy

The plates are new pictures, made after the works named under them. They are not reproductions. Tools were used in making the covers and the plates. The methods stay private. Picasso's works are still in copyright. Nothing here takes their place.

The digital file may be shared under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. Copy it as it is, for a non-commercial purpose, and say who made it. You may not sell the file, and you may not make a new work out of the plates. The license is the rule for this file. It is not a claim on the paintings.

LTD 100 is the specification for a physical run: one hundred copies, a black slipcase, gold foil, the number and the price left blank until a copy is made. The cover names that run. It does not mean the hundred copies are already in the world. Buying the object, if it is made, is not a license to republish the plates.
