Before the synopsis
The office is a low building up the path, shutters fastened, a notice curled to blank.
Synopsis
Rhea Solin
Wind worries the notice and cannot uncurl a word that is already gone. The island is rock, shed, water, and her. It is not a paradise and not a prison.
Gulls cross and do not land on the slip. A boat could cross the visible distance.
She does not call one. Passage is not assumed just because the far shore can be seen. The far shore is a low line and a few pale roofs, none of them signaling.
Extended sequence
The shore, in order
She reads the stick gauge, kneels, and marks the height in a careful hand. The stick is dark at the new line and dry above it. Wind takes the corner of the chart.
She pins it with her thumb and finishes the number. She stays kneeling a moment longer than the number requires, listening to water under the slip, then stands. Halfway through the afternoon a hull appears on the strait, a working boat, not aimed at her ramp.

Rhea Solin

The water
Its wake is a white line that does not bend toward the concrete. She lifts the board once, a half-signal she could turn into a wave. The boat holds its course.
A figure on the working deck does not answer with an arm. She lowers the board and does not complete the hail. That is the change: the chance of a second person passes at a measurable distance, and the water remains unwilling to produce company on her shore.
Codex fragment
Her tide mark dries on the paper. The stick gauge does not rise again while she watches. The strait stays empty of a second hull, and the island keeps the one figure it had at dawn, board closed, notice blank, water doing nothing to bring the far shore any nearer. Rhea does not open the board again.
The scenario is filed in the Codex.
Sound of Imagination
Tide under the slip keeps the level she has already written, neither climbing the stick nor leaving it. The closed office shows no lamp. The curled notice ticks once and lies flat against the shutter.
Showcase
Object

She dates the page and closes the board. The closed office keeps its shutters.
A loose batten ticks and does not fall. Rhea stays on the slip until the boat is only a speck. The speck goes into the glare and does not return as a hull.
The Craft
The Craft · Isolation
Image · Motion · Sound · Result
Far roofs on the other shore do not flash. She sets the board under her arm and remains on the concrete rather than walking up to the shut door.
A gull crosses low and does not land. The speck of the working boat does not grow back into a hull.
Read it as written. The scenario.
The next room
After this filing
Her inked number stays the last mark on the page, and the island keeps her as its single figure while the strait offers no second wake toward the ramp. The next room is Silence as Companion.
