House of Gold

The Prophet and the Ruin

REMBRANDT-02 · Figurine

The figure

An old man in a blue and gold robe, head on his hand, a gold bowl on a rug

Black marble · Brass plaque · Not a reproduction

The object

He sits. Blue robe, gold border, head on one hand. A gold bowl sits on a small rug in front of him. The plaque reads The Prophet and the Ruin.

The burning city stays in the plate. The base keeps the man and the bowl. The ruin is the thing he is already sitting inside.

The base is black marble with gold veins. The plaque is brass. The figure leaves the plate. It does not leave the museum, and it is not a toy.

The plate

Plate 02 of House of Gold. After Jeremiah Lamenting the Destruction of Jerusalem. Rijksmuseum, SK-A-3276, 1630.

No fire is modelled. The city is not a backdrop stuck behind the marble.

The painting stays in the museum. This object is the plate, standing.
