The dossier starts here, not from a list written somewhere else. A woman keeps a book closed. A man holds his palm to the glass as if a district could be stopped by a hand. Between them, the highest floors of The Stack, and a city that is about to lose a street.
Jax “Horizon” Rell runs those floors. That is the work. The thing the room cares about is smaller and worse: he is one of the few who still has the previous skyline, including the street that had a bakery. Memory, at this height, is not a gift. It is a contradiction the building has not yet corrected.
Three, and no more
He does not go down. Down is where the new map becomes manners, couriers, a gap nobody mentions. He stays, because someone should be present for both versions. The palm on the glass is not heroism. It is the last polite gesture available to a man who knows the gesture will fail.
She is not named. The frame keeps her at the edge on purpose. The book is the previous street in a form the map cannot select and delete in one motion. She does not open it for him and she does not open it for the room. An open book would be a document. Documents are how The Stack finishes a district.
The third figure is the hand itself, which belongs to him and does not help. A dossier that added a crowd would be lying. The crowd is already in the edit, and the edit does not keep faces.
