Liminal Spaces

Thresholds that are not destinations.

Overview

Liminal Spaces — Aestas Infinity

Climate

Liminal Spaces is the climate of thresholds that are not destinations — hallways between years, stations without trains, lobbies of incomplete arrival, escalators between disagreeing floors, places the map cannot name. Standalone films under Dream & Symbol.

These films stay in the interval. They do not rush to a final room that solves the edge. Series chapters live under Episodes. Here each title remains a permanent standalone page.

The principle

The corridor turns and becomes the same corridor.

Thresholds that are not destinations. A hallway between years, a station that has a time and no train, a lobby for arrivals that already failed. The climate is the between. The other side, if it exists, is not the film's employer.

These places were built for transit and then outlived the people who needed to arrive. They do not hate you. Hatred would be a relationship. They are simply finished with the idea that a corridor owes you a room.

Station

3:17 never becomes a departure.

The Station at 3:17 is a time that never becomes a departure. The clock is honest about the minute and a liar about the train. Benches keep their job. No one is paid to apologise. 3:17 is not a mystery to be solved. It is the architecture, and it repeats because repetition is cheaper than a destination.

Hallway Between Years was not built to connect two rooms so much as the rooms were built to give it an excuse. Carpet, a hum, a turn that should have brought you back and brings you a wallpaper that is almost the same. Almost is the whole horror. A perfect loop would at least be a design.

Hallway Between Years

Lobby

Forgotten arrivals. The lobby does not enter.

Lobby of Forgotten Arrivals still has a desk. The book is open on names that did not finish arriving. Light sits on the floor in a square, doing what light does when no one is late. Forgotten is not the same as lost. Lost gets a search. Forgotten gets a lobby, and the lobby is in excellent condition.

Threshold of No Return is the line the building drew and then declined to narrate. Step over it and the way back becomes a story you tell, not a door you can use. Liminal Spaces refuses the reveal of the other side. The climate is the between, and the between is not a waiting room for a better genre.

The Unlit Escalator

The unlit escalator. The floors do not agree.

The Unlit Escalator still runs. The floors it joins do not agree what the building is. Steps appear out of the dark and go back into it, busy, vacant, correct. Nobody is on it. That is not a haunting. It is a machine that was never waiting for a passenger in order to be true.

Place Between Places has no noun the map will accept. People pass and do not stop. Nobody arrives, which would require the place to be a place. It is a gap with fluorescent manners. Stand in it and you understand the cynicism: a life spent getting somewhere else ends, logically, here.

People pass through. No one arrives. There is no sign.

How to enter

The hallway is the reason the rooms exist.

The Station at 3:17 if the clock is the architecture. Hallway Between Years if duration is a corridor. Place Between Places if the map has no noun.

Lobby of Forgotten Arrivals if the book is more faithful than the travellers. Threshold of No Return if the line is the whole plot. The Unlit Escalator if the floors disagree and the stairs do not care.

A story that continues lives under Episodes. These do not.
