When the Light Goes Out
Key art
Prologue
Six seconds · the lamp first
One lamp on a desk. The flame is ordinary. The shelves behind it are already negotiating with the black.
The flame thins without a draft. What leans in above it is not smoke. It was sitting there before the light admitted it.
Morning is already an idea, not a light in the window. The six seconds spend themselves on the lamp, because the lamp is the last fact the room and the watcher still share.

Synopsis
Gothic Horror · Standalone
First the lamps. Then the windows. Then the idea of morning. A room loses light the way a diver's bell loses air: slowly, and then as a fact.
Gothic Horror does not play this as a switch. The dark is an occupant. It takes the volume above the flame, and the face that appears is defined by the absence of shadow around it. The light was squeezed, not switched off.
A hand beside a flame that is thinning is not a thriller beat. Fuel is being eaten by the room. Morning is the idea that leaves first.
Extended sequence
After the cut
The wick gives up by degrees. Inside one globe a tiny figure burns, which is the lamp telling the truth too early. Then there is only the lamp on black cloth, the library already forfeited. When the face arrives it does not descend with noise. It occupies the air the flame was using.
Morning is not late. Morning has been cancelled as a category.
Something small burns inside the globe, then the flame is a thread between fingers. The cut stays on the wick. It does not pan away to a rescue.
Figures in the frame
Kept at the edge
Writers in hoods around the last lamp, taking down a session the light is losing. They are not a jury the film will explain. They are who stays when witness becomes clerical. The man at the desk is almost out of the account.
A pale face leans out of the dark above the desk and is not introduced. It does not need the lamp. That is the only fact the frame is willing to give.
Codex fragment
The sentence the camera would not hold: the house did not wait for the fuel to end. It finished a sentence the living had started by trusting a single flame.
Bundles of tied papers beside the last flame are the minutes. The fragment keeps the bundles. It does not summarise the night they recorded.
Sound of Imagination
A wick in oil. Paper under a dry hand. The tick of cooling glass. Then less room in the air, which is not a musical event and should not be scored as one. Pressure, then the absence of the small bright sound.
Hoods writing around a lamp. Pens, cloth, a flame that pops once and is not scored. The dark does not get a drone.
Showcase
Object from the room
A framed coil of gold light, cased beside a lamp, the way a museum keeps a specimen it cannot return to the wild. The print of the last gold, if it is made, is that frame: the millisecond before the desk goes.
The Craft
Image · motion · sound
Tied bundles, the paperwork of a darkness. A crowd of witnesses who arrived without being invited by the plot. Fingers on the lamp at the end, too late to be a rescue. The stills are the order. A person files them. The lamp does not.
A library of witnesses and one practical lamp. The black is velvet and paint, not a grade crushed in afterwards. The still is there so the room can prove it.
