The Eye That Did Not Close
Key art

Order
Darkness. Breathing with no mouth to claim it. A distant pulse. A thin vertical slit of gold is already there and is not widening. Dust drifts in one direction only. Fog holds a horizon that is not a place. No figure stands in front of the slit. An eyelid has not been admitted, because an eyelid would mean a body, and a body is a later picture.
No score. The breathing is not a voice. If a composer puts a tone under the pulse, the hour becomes a threat, and a threat is a later picture. Here the gold is only deciding whether to be an eye.
The edit
The slit brightens by a fraction and stops. The dust does not change its mind. The ground where a person will eventually stand is only ground. Nothing arrives. The pulse continues, uninterested in being interpreted.
The frame is almost black. The slit is the only measurement. Do not cut to a person preparing to enter. Preparation is the story beside this, and it happens in a kitchen this lens is not invited into.
What is left
This is not Don't Blink — Episode I. That picture begins when the eye is already wide and a figure cannot leave. What this one refuses to shoot is the arrival.
Episode I begins when the eye is wide and a figure cannot leave. Do not shoot that. If the slit finishes opening, you have left this picture.
