Scenario
2:57 · 16:9
A snow path runs between the ribs of a colossal dragon skeleton frozen into the mountain wall. At the jaw a board reads KALREV in dark letters. Offerings already sit on the teeth: folded cloth, a handful of grain, a small lamp left unlit. A lone traveler sets one more cloth across the bone and steps back onto the path. The cloth is pale against the yellowed bone. Wind combs the pass and does not lift the older offerings. The unlit lamp holds a skin of frost. The traveler's pack stays on her shoulders. She does not kneel.
Snow ticks against the ribs and falls inside the cage of bone without burying the path. The sign stays readable. The letters do not soften. Minutes pass as wind trying shapes in the skull's openings and failing to finish them, and as her breath leaving her and being taken. The new cloth flutters once at a corner and lies down. Grain in the offering pile does not scatter. She waits to hear whether the pass will use the name on the board.
Wind moving through the skull shapes a word. It is nearly Kalrev and nearly some other word, and it does not finish either of them. The new cloth freezes to the jaw where she set it. Ice walks into the grain of the bone and locks the weave so it will not lift. The traveler takes the morning path inside the ribs, snow crunching between the great curves. The almost-word follows along the bone, nearer to speech than before, and still short of it. Frost on the unlit lamp thickens. The lamp does not take a flame from the cold. Ice climbs one more tooth past the offerings and stops, a clear edge, not a letter.
At the last rib the traveler stops and looks back toward the jaw. The sign is clear in the white. The wind tries the word again and leaves it unfinished. Ice shines in a broken fragment beside the path, offering cloth white against the bone, and the pass keeps the sound without completing it. Her tracks between the ribs do not fill while she stands there. The almost-word does not come the rest of the way into Kalrev, and it does not choose the other word either.
The frozen cloth stays locked to the jaw. The unlit lamp keeps its frost. The traveler remains at the last rib, and the pass holds an unfinished name in the wind without giving her the missing sound.
Snow keeps filling the spaces between the ribs and does not bury the sign. The traveler's crunch underfoot stops because she has stopped. Ice on the extra tooth stays clear. The handful of grain among the offerings takes a crust and does not blow away. The board's dark letters hold KALREV without the wind being willing to spend the whole of it. She does not walk back to add another cloth. The pass has the one she gave, frozen in place, and the unfinished word moving along the bone without a mouth to complete it.
