Rejected

Order

A clerk's window. Rain on the glass. Three copies of a wonder are put on the desk by a sleeve that drips. The clerk does not look up. The stamp in her hand is already inked for a different pile. Anything that wants to be believed in this building brings copies. That was the wonder's first mistake.

Rain on the window is practical, not a mood laid under the scene. The stamp is already inked. She does not change the pad. Changing the pad would mean this wonder got its own color, and it did not.

The edit

She writes Rejected on the top sheet. Once. No reason under it. A reason would be a door back into the tray that goes upstairs. She slides all three into the stack under the counter, in the order they arrived, which she does not improve. She does not blot the rain on the paper.

One word. No reason on a second line. Do not tilt up to a vision above the desk. The wonder is paper. If the lens looks for a miracle in the air, it has left the building's rules, and the building's rules are the scene.

What is left

The picture is the word and the stamp. The third copy in her coat at the end of the shift is not in the shot.

Two copies stay under the counter. The third will leave in a coat. Do not follow the coat. The scenario ends when the drawer under the counter shuts.
