Eleven Minutes

Order

Bridge of a ship. Doctor Mirek has the headset off one ear. On the screen a pulse, soft, older than the maps, with eleven minutes between peaks. A cup ticks when the deck ticks. He does not narrate. Narration would be a claim that the sound is a message.

The ship does not shake. A shaking ship would make the pulse an alarm. It is not an alarm. It is regular, and regularity is the unsettling part. Keep the cup in frame when the deck gives it a reason to tick.

The edit

At the peak he marks the waveform. No language. No mathematics. He saves the mark into a buffer the overwrite is not allowed to touch. In the next compartment a laugh starts and runs out. He does not add the laugh to the log. The next peak comes on time. He does not salute it.

Do not show the source. The moment someone points out a window and finds a cause, the log becomes a briefing. He has already lost two briefings. The mark is a mark. Leave it unnamed on the screen.

What is left

The picture holds the mark. The laugh, and the morning an officer will ask for a sender, are not in this minute.

Morning, an officer, a slate, and the question of a sender are after this. So is the laugh he did not enter. The scenario ends on the next peak, on time, with no salute.
