Before the synopsis

She is alone, and the lack of a congregation does not cancel the hour.

Synopsis

Anwen Sere

Waiting is the rite, not the delay before one. A door stands across from her, shut, its handle dark from other hands. She faces it without leaning, without checking a road, without preparing a welcome.

Benches along the side walls hold only their dust. A high slit admits the day as a narrow brightness on the floor, still short of her boots. Her hands rest on the outside of the bowl. The water answers one breath with a small sound against the clay, then goes quiet.

She does not stir the surface. A minute passes as the bright bar lengthens, and nothing else in the hall agrees to move. Light from the high slit travels the floor, a slow bright bar.

Extended sequence

What is refused

extended sequence

Dust in the joint brightens and goes dull again. The bar reaches the near leg of the bench, climbs an inch of stone, and slips off onto the open floor. Anwen does not draw her knees aside. The light continues toward the threshold of the door, the place an arrival would cross.

No step sounds outside while the bar is still on the stone. The wood keeps its color. When the bar reaches the sill it meets the seam and keeps going until it climbs the door. Grain shows for the length of that climb.

The dark handle takes a thin rim of light along one side and loses it. The bar leaves the wood, finds the wall above for a moment, and is gone. The hour that might have brought someone has passed inside that travel. Anwen does not rise to open the door and hunt the absence.

She turns the bowl once in her hands, a measure of the wait, not a summons. Water climbs the clay and returns to level. A wet ring marks the higher place, then sinks until the worn line is the only mark.

Codex fragment

Fragment

Codex dossier

She does not tip the water out. No step sounds outside. The handle does not move. A draft too slight to belong to a person touches her sleeve and leaves. She remains seated, spine easy, eyes on the door that is part of the rite by staying shut.

The scenario is filed in the Codex.

Sound of Imagination

Live tape

Sound edition

The water in the bowl barely shifts. Completion does not require a person to come through. A later brightness starts at the far edge of the floor, thinner than the first, and moves more slowly. It reaches her boot, lays its strongest part on the leather, and slides off toward the door. She does not stand to meet it.

ritual bowl

Object

She sets the bowl square in her lap. Her thumbs meet under the foot and stay. The floor keeps the color of stone already crossed by light.

From the clay a single bubble, no larger than a seed, rises and breaks. The wet ring left by the turn dries from its outer edge inward until the inside of the bowl looks as it did when she sat. She does not dip a finger.

Image · Motion · Sound · Result

This bar climbs only the lower panel and dies before the handle. The door gives nothing back.

A grain of dust that rode the light settles on the sill and does not become a track. Anwen stays seated with the bowl. The door she faces stays shut.

Read it as written. The scenario.

The next room

After this filing

The lower panel goes dull again, and the water over the worn line does not take another ring. The next room is The Year That Repeats.
