Synopsis

The city wanted a fairy tale. It got something else. Red tile, black timber, a lane so narrow the candles almost meet, a pumpkin already lit in every window.

He wanted a babydoll and got a nightmare in lace. Lurking where the graves keep their flowers. Dancing in the moonlight. Secrets in the black light. Above the smoke a pale city of spires stays awake, colder than the street.

Extended sequence

Nobody walks the lane. The windows are doing the work.

Lace is the cut of the gables. The fire is what the lace is holding.

Figures in the frame

Gargoyles on the ridges, bats in the gaps the chimneys leave.

A pale animal on the lower roof, watching a party that was not announced.

Codex fragment

He wanted a babydoll. What came wore lace, stood where the graves keep their flowers, and danced where the moonlight was.

The fragment is Nightmare in Lace.

Sound of Imagination

Lace, Not a Lullaby is the lane after the wish. The dance stays. The doll does not.
