Synopsis
His heart stopped three minutes ago. Hers stopped when he did not answer the radio. A block already on fire, black water, a roof that has given up. She has a mark on her cheek and the radio on her shoulder. He is cut at the brow and still listening.
Two military doctors. Two paramedic drones, one of them hanging in the smoke with a single bright eye. Between the flares they find the one pulse worth saving, and the title is the order: start mine first.
Extended sequence
The rain does not put the fire out. It only keeps the ground honest.
Neither of them is running. The queue is a body, not a building.
