The Warm Coin
Key art

The object
Thicker than a coin that pays for bread. Gold that has learned a face. The eyes on it are closed. It is not laughing and not weeping. On the cloth it is cold. In a hand it is warm, and that is the whole warning.
It will not melt. It will not stay where it is put down. Returned to an eye, it is ice-cold and the noise inside it stops. Left on a table, it is gone by morning. The object is that behavior, held still long enough to look at.
Not a line of goods
It is not a miniature of the Searcher and not a miniature of the skull. One coin. No base that explains the hill. No plaque with the three green lines. If it needs a speech to be understood, it is the wrong object.
The print is the hill. This is the thing that was taken out of the hill.
The hand
Weight enough to know you are holding metal, not a token. The face is raised only as far as a worn coin raises a mark. Asleep. The room that keeps the picture is An Eye for an Eye.
