Synopsis

«Empty Feast» opens on a long table prepared with complete attention: plates portioned, glasses filled, candles upright, chairs aligned as if a conversation has already been assigned to each place. No one arrives. The film does not treat the absence as a delayed entrance. The absence is the subject.

Time behaves incorrectly around the meal. Candles burn without shortening. Steam rises and does not thin. Food remains at the temperature of a moment that will not move forward. The camera travels the length of the table the way other films travel a corridor — inventorying care that has nowhere to land.

A living figure may enter the frame: a host, a late guest, a witness who mistakes the room for an invitation. The feast does not adjust for them. Chairs do not scrape back. The places remain reserved for a company that the room insists is already present. Allegory under Dream & Symbol allows the table to be both furniture and verdict.

Sound design stays close to small practical noises — fabric, glass, a distant kitchen that may not exist — and refuses a score that would sentimentalize hunger or loneliness. When speech occurs, it is brief and wrong for the scale of the setting: a comment about seasoning, a question about who was invited, an apology spoken to an empty place setting.

The allegory is legible without a caption. Hospitality without guests. Ritual without community. Abundance arranged as if abundance were the same as presence. The film refuses a twist that reveals the guests were always ghosts in a cheap way. It simply holds the contradiction until the viewer feels the weight of a celebration that cannot begin and cannot be cleared away.

Secondary images may recur: a door that opens onto the same dining room, a mirror that shows more occupied chairs than the physical table holds, a clock that prefers the hour of sitting down. None of these decode the feast into a single moral. They thicken the climate.

The ending does not seat the missing company for comfort. It leaves the table complete and unanswered. Plates stay full. Candles continue their impossible burn. The empty feast remains what it was at the first frame — a full preparation aimed at an absence that the room will not admit is permanent.

A dining room adrift above cloud, the table still fully laid.

Extended sequence

After the last shot of Empty Feast, the room does not reset. Empty Feast opens on a long table prepared with complete attention: plates portioned, glasses filled, candles upright, chairs aligned as if a conversation has already been assigned to each place. The extra minute belongs to allegory — dust, breath, and the decision that did not make the poster.

A long table in the dark, a small lit city standing in for the guests.

Figures in the frame

Who remains in Empty Feast is A living figure. The frame keeps them at the edge on purpose. When a dossier is written it will start from this still, not from a cast list imported from elsewhere.

Candles and towers sharing one tablecloth, the meal untouched.

Codex fragment

The Codex sentence for Empty Feast is the one the camera would not hold: Empty Feast opens on a long table prepared with complete attention: plates portioned, glasses filled, candles upright, chairs aligned as if a conversation has already been assigned to each place. What the room already knew stays filed with the title, not with the feed.

A hand pouring wine at a table where the far glass is still waiting.

Sound of Imagination

Download audio

Empty Feast has a frequency before any score is mastered — room tone, a held note, the residual of corridor. Sound of Imagination keeps that pressure even if the track is still unfiled.

A woman in gold at the edge of a candlelit table, the rest of the room in shadow.

Showcase

If Empty Feast leaves the screen it leaves as an object taken from the universe: corridor, print, or a fragment you can hold. Not merchandise. A piece of Allegory that survived the cut.

A silver cover lifted from a dish, steam rising, nothing eaten.

The Craft

Empty Feast is built still first: the image of corridor, then the motion that proves the still was not a pose, then the residual. The method stays visible so the room does not pretend to be a feed.

A banquet running the length of a dark hall, place after place still set.

The same feast seen from the weather outside, clouds against the glass.
