Before the synopsis
The thorns are regular, cast, not grown, and water beads on them and drops into a pool that does not escape the circle.
Synopsis
A figure in a dull coat stands at the rim, kept there. The crown is only a shadow across their shoulders though they are not standing under the iron.
The shadow has the shape of the thorns and lies on the cloth as if the metal were above them. Water pools beneath the thorns and does not run out of the circle. The ring's outer edge stays merely wet.
The inner edge holds the pool like a lip. The figure takes one step inward, toward the metal, a boot testing the rim and not quite leaving it.
Extended sequence
After the cut
Color drains from the coat, then from the grass at the rim, then from the stone itself, leaving dull the places that looked sure of their color. The drain moves outward from the boot in a slow ring of its own.
Only the iron stays dark and bright in the rain. A length of the crown breaks off, thorns still fixed along it, and sinks into the pool. The sound is small, iron on stone under water.
Figures in the frame
Who remains
The figure stops at the rim and does not enter the ring. The shadow covers their shoulders anyway, thorn by thorn, and does not lighten when they stop.
The broken length glints under the water and does not wash clear. Time passes as the pool rises a finger and still refuses to cross the ring. Color does not return to the coat.
Codex fragment
Filed with the room
The grey in the coat darkens where the rain soaks it and still is not the coat's old color. No one else comes to the rim.
The scenario is filed in the Codex.
Sound of Imagination
Residual
Rain on stone. A short hiss off the iron, heat meeting water. The circle holding a note after each drop. No anthem. Sound of Imagination
The court beyond the ring keeps what color it had, a boundary as sharp as the stone lip. A single thorn on the sunken length loosens, turns once in the water, and seats itself again at a slightly wrong angle, still attached, still inside the ring.
Showcase
Object from the universe
A wet fragment of the crown, thorns bent, iron dark, not cleaned. Taken out of the circuit. The Showcase
The grass stays grey. The stone stays grey.
The figure's hands remain at their sides, rain running from the cuffs. A bead of rain hangs on the highest remaining thorn and does not fall for a long moment, then falls into the pool without a splash the eye can keep.
The Craft
Image · motion · sound
The crown in the rain is the still. Motion is the splash and the pooling, not a coronation. The residual is iron under cold water. The Craft
The figure does not reach across the wet stone. The main crown sits where the ring has kept it.
The figure remains colorless at the edge of the closed circuit, shadow of thorns across the shoulders, and the pool holds both the broken length and the rain that cannot leave.
Read it as written. The scenario.
