Before the synopsis
She goes out the door on the right.
Synopsis
The kettle on the stove begins to tick, heating toward a noise it has not reached. In the same instant she comes in from the left, from the corridor side, coat now fully on, the scrap still in her hand, as if the building had turned itself around between one step and the next.
She has not had time to be anywhere. The right-hand door is shut, though she just used it. The kettle is louder than it should be, a hard tick under the room, and under it she hears the corridor clock, which lives outside the door she has not opened this time.
The clock has a tired measure, not matching the kettle. She calls a name, once, toward the bedroom.
Extended sequence
The name goes into the short hall and does not return as an echo she can use. From the kitchen, not the bedroom, a man's answer arrives, tired and near, asking if she found the keys.
The keys are on the table in front of her. They were in her pocket when she left. They lie in a small bright pile, both copies, the ring closed.
Figures in the frame
Her pocket, when she checks it, is empty. She takes the right-hand door again, slower, palm on the jamb.
The wood is warm, as if the room beyond had been occupied. The room she enters is the same room, the kettle now silent, the man already seated with two cups, both full, neither of them poured while she watched. Steam stands over both and does not lean.
Codex fragment
She does not take the coat off. The sleeve she had empty is full now, and she does not remember putting the arm through. The corridor clock and the kitchen quiet occupy the room together.
The scenario is filed in the Codex.
Sound of Imagination
The keys lie between the cups, claimed by neither errand. Time passes as the steam thins on one cup and holds on the other. The kettle gives one last tick, late, and then nothing.
Showcase
He looks at the clock on her scrap. The time there does not match the clock she can hear still ticking in the corridor.
His cup is nearer the window. Hers, if it is hers, waits at the empty side.
The Craft
The time written on the scrap loses the last digit, the pencil mark paling until only a smear remains, while the corridor clock keeps its tick without correcting the page. She does not rewrite it.
He does not pour again.
Read it as written. The scenario.

The next room
After this filing
The two cups stay full, one still steaming, one gone quiet, and the keys between them belong to a leaving that already happened and a return that did not need the door. The next room is Frame Without Film.
